Cypriot Love Joins Mavaya (Imp Cyp)

In 2012 I was made aware that some of my Spinone friends had become involved with rescuing dogs from Cyprus. I knew some people who had rehomed dogs in the UK and followed their stories then in January 2013 we rescued a Bavarian Mountain Hound from Cyprus called Florence, who lives with my sister.
When we lost our lovely Layla we knew that would mean bringing another Cyprus rescue over to join our family. We had been looking for a long time but then came across "Freeda" as she was then. We were drawn to her as she is so pretty and according to the shelter she was in, she had a personality to match.

There is a HUGE unwanted dog problem in Cyprus, hundreds of thousand of dogs are dumped and most pounds/shelters are full to bursting. Pounds there do not have funding like we do here, they are funded by donations and fundraising in a country where dogs are (mostly) not thought of as pets. Freya was thrown out of a car and left to fend for herself one evening.
Anyway, in May we asked to reserve Freya and set about finding a foster home whilst she is prepared for her passport and flight etc. Back we went to Flo's foster Mum, a lovely lady called Christine to ask if she knew anyone who could help. She came up trumps and Freya spent the next few weeks living with Caroline on the UK Army Base there.
Freya flew into Gatwick on the 5th June 2013 and the rest, as they say, is history!

We have been ever so lucky, being an unknown entity, but Freya is just wonderful, she loves everyone and doesn't put a paw wrong, so well behaved, a complete pleasure :)

We would like to thank Christine Goldsmith who works tirelessly to help rescue dogs in Cyprus, we couldn't have done this without your help, you went out of your way to get Freya to her new home with us. Thank you :-) Also, a huge thank you to Freya's foster Mum, Caroline Bowen-Fleming who looked after Freya so well whilst she fulfilled the requirements for her pet passport, again, she wouldn't be here without your help.
